Two-day Orientation Programs held for New Students at RCsDP
Two-day orientation programs were held separately for new female and male students at the Riyadh Colleges of Dentistry and Pharmacy after the students completed their registration requirements and their identification cards issued to them.
At the program on the first day, Monday, 19 September 2016 (18/12/1437H), the students received useful information about their courses, the College rules and regulations and procedures relating to students like dropping of and adding courses; student activities and their importance; the benefits of attending all the lectures, making use of the office hours of faculty members, studying every day and preparing early for examinations. The students were also encouraged to actively participate in College activities, to comply with all the rules and regulations in the school, and to be diligent in their studies and persistent towards achieving their goals.
For the female students, the orientation speakers were Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery, Rector; Dr. Saleh Al Shamrani, Dean, College of Dentistry; Dr. Hana Al-Khabbaz, Assistant Dean for Pharmacy; Dr. Hala Fahmy, Vice Chairman of the Preparatory Health Studies (PHS) Department; Ms. Jameela Al-Amari, Director of Student Affairs; Ms. Hanan Al-Saleh, Director of Student Activities; and Ms. Muna Al-Thawad. The orientation was held at the An Namuthajiyah campus on King Fahd Road.
For the male students, the speakers were Prof. Abdullah Al Shammery, Rector; Dr. Saleh Al Shamrani, Dean, College of Dentistry; Dr. Kais Al Obaidy, Dean of the College of Pharmacy; Prof. Gamal Kenawy, Chairman of the Preparatory Health Sciences Department; Dr. Zaki Fakiha, Chairman, Prosthodontics Department; Dr. Omar Al Khadhi, Mr. Mohammed Al Fawaz, and Mr. Yahya Maqbool.
RCsDP Rector Prof. Abdullah R. Al Shammery talked about the importance of science and seeking knowledge. He urged the students to thank God for helping them to finish high school. He lauded the parents for their efforts in raising and their children and ensuring that they reach this present stage in their lives. He cautioned the students to be aware about the big difference between high school and college life, requirements and responsibilities. He stressed the need to adhere to good manners according to Islamic values. He advised that the college e-mail is the official channel for communication in the college and assured them that all their inquiries would be answered within 24 hours by any official in RCsDP.
The Dean of the College of Dentistry, Dr. Saleh Al-Shamrani, emphasized the need to comply with the college rules and regulations, to constantly peruse the college’s website, reviewing the Student Handbook, the academic calendar, and to comply with the college rules and regulations.
Dr. Zaki Fakiha, Chairman , Prosthodontics Department and Dr. Omar Al Khadhi for the males and Dr. Deema Al Shammery and Dr. Fatima Al-Otaibi for the females discussed the Dental curriculum, the stages of studying dentistry, the clinic education and the various dental departments in RCsDP.
Dr. Kais Al Obaidy, Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Dr. Hana Al-Khabbaz, Assistant Dean for Pharmacy discussed the Pharmacy curriculum for the male and female students, respectively.
Prof. Gamal Kenawy, Chairman of the Preparatory Health Sciences Department and Dr. Hala Fahmy, Vice Chairman of the Preparatory Health Studies (PHS) Department discussed the curriculum for the first two years of study in RCsDP.
The students were taken on a tour of their campuses An Namuthajiyah campus for females and Qurtoba for the males on the last day.
An average of 78 female students per day attended the orientation program in An Namuthajiyah while an average of male students attended the one in Qurtoba.
